Days 1 and 2:
FYI.. Long post!!
I was cutting it close, too close, with my plans to the airport. My plane was leaving at 2:20 and I got off work at 1 and drove home super fast, loaded my luggage, and my mom drove me. I've never flown before so my nerves were all over the place. I wanted my mommy to come with me so bad! I had no idea what I was doing. I got my boarding pass and got checked through security and made it to my plane- late. I was THE VERY LAST to board, and on South West there's no assigned seating. Yeah, that sucked. My carry on was at the back of the plane and I was at the front- in between two men. Thankfully they were really nice and the one gentleman talked me through it all. I was so grateful ha ha. We landed in Phoenix about 4ish and this time around I knew exactly what I was doing. I got a good spot, and two super nice girls sat next to me. We experienced some really bad turbulence over Texas and that was scary for me but other than that everything was fine.
I landed in Nashville about 9ish (8pm mountain time) and took a shuttle to my hotel. I stayed at La Quinta Inn and here's one word that will perfectly describe it for you: Ghetto. Breakfast was at 9 Friday morning and after that I took a taxi to the Greyhound station and waited for the bus. It was supposed to descend at 10:35am. I saw people lining up at my gate and I thought they were going somewhere else because the bus said it was headed to like, Arkansas or something. Turns out that was my bus and Memphis was a stop on the way. I ran out really fast and thankfully made it on the bus.
The bus ride was.... Yeah, no comment. Since I was the last one on I sat next to some person that hogged both seats. Not cool. From Nashville to Memphis was about a 4 hour ride. We were approaching out pit stop when we drove up a one way street with some "thugs" walking in the middle of the street so the bus driver honked at them and her freaking horn got stuck! Or like 5 minutes! So annoying. We made it to the pit stop in Jackson, Tennessee and that place is like the West Valley of Tennessee. The bad part. I wasn't about to get off the bus to get a snack or a drink cause I was scared for my life. I was also the only white girl on board of the bus so of course I was the apple of every guys eye. Creeeeeeppppyyy!
An hour later, I finally arrived in MEMPHIS!! It was so good to see Hayley! She picked me up from te Memphis Greyhound with the little girl she nannies, Chloe, and we went to Popeyes to eat because I was starving! I'd never been there before, I don't think they have any in the West. It was pretty good but made me feel so sick. There was too much butter in everything you ate. The coolest thing while driving around was seeing all the Waffle Houses! There's one every 5 miles, I swear. Anyways, We made it to the house and I unpacked and helped Hayley make dinner for the family. As soon as we were done she took me out to explore the city. First stop: downtown Memphis.
We ate at world-famous Huey's. It was so freaking GOOD! I had some mozzarella sticks and a turkey sandwich. Mmmmm. After that we walked around some more to explore and saw a carriage. We had to get on that thing and take a tour. Little did I know, I was allergic to horses ;) Out carriage driver was hilarious. We told him we wanted his carriage because there were no hearts on it. We reassured him we didn't want that one because we're just best friends, not lesbians. On the way he yelled that out to quite a few guys walking around ha ha. It was hilarious! He told us a really funny gay-horse joke. "What does a gay horse eat? Haaayyyyy." Ha ha oh man, too funny. By this time I had lost my voice so I knew something was up. We continued taking and we were asking him about the rules of the street when the horse poops. Do you have to pick it up? How does it work? Questions like that. He told us no, because there's a bucket that the horse goes in. But the pee, there's not much he can do but throw water on it. Then he insisted on telling us the nastiest thing- he told us that it sucks when the horse does both because ten in the bucket it makes "poop soup." bahahahaha. Ew!!!
We got off the carriage ride and took some pictures and petted the horse- her name was Belle. We then walked over to a dessert shop and had some yummy brownie thing. This is when things got bad. My eyes were red and bloodshot and started to get super itchy. By the time we got home that night my eyes were swollen shut. The pictures don't do it justice. Since I'm doing this on my phone- all the pictures will be below. Everything was closed at 1 in the morning and Helen, the mother of Chloe, had no allergy medicine so I had to wait until the next morning- when it was a little better- to get some allergy medicine and get it through my system. Hayley and I got ready for the day and were off gain for some more adventures!
We went to Panera for lunch. They had the worlds best macaroni and cheese, no joke. I ordered that and a delish strawberry smoothie. After lunch we were going to see War Horse but the showing wasn't until 7. :( So instead we went to the Civil Rights Museum! So awesome.
After seeing the museum we then headed back to downtown Memphis. We were walking around and saw the same creep from the night before that had offered us to come eat at his restaurant when we declined because we had just ate at Huey's. This time we debated about it and decided to try it. It was Cajun food but it was pretty good. I got the Bourbon chicken. This couple came over to us and asked us if that guy was creeping us out and we said yes, and that started a four hour fun conversation. This couple was from Louisiana and the husband was slowly getting drunk.. It was hilarious to watch. They loved us because we're from Utah and so oblivious to all the creeps in Memphis. They were way nice and told us where to go and where not to go. The creep that brought us into the restaurant wanted Hayley's number but no way was he getting it, he could be our dad! He took a bathroom break so we knew that was our chance to book it out of there.
We walked back to our car and made a pit stop at Target to get some snacks cause we were going to have a movie night. We got cookie dough, yummy chips, and some drinks and headed home to watch I Am Legend.
Stay tuned for the rest of my Tennessee trip!
